Hana is one

Hana is one today, which seems totally unbelievable. Parenting the second time around is so much more fun (even when it happens only 20 months later). We weren’t as stressed about bottle-feeding (well, I wasn’t…), or when to start solids, or little sniffles, or when each little milestone happened. I wasn’t obsessively reading books, because I both kind of knew what was going on (KIND OF), and had no time with Maya jetting around and Hana squirming and then crawling.

Our Hana bear is giggly, nearly always happy, and full of (still) gummy grins. She loves toys, but isn’t so into books yet. She rarely gets worked up by Maya and Lola snapping up her stuff. Yesterday we discovered that the one and only food she does not like is pears. Hana is still a little wary of strangers–there are only a few people that she will immediately allow to hold her, other than mommy and daddy. She moves at the speed of light while crawling (even with fists full of blocks), cruises pretty quickly, and can take about 4 hesitant grinning steps. Though I think it would be more if Maya didn’t always topple her with excitement. Hana also has LOTS of bad ideas–she wants to break into bathroom cabinets, swim in the toilet, play with electrical outlets (which is new for us).

Hana brings us laughter (which Maya would say “all done laughing” to), and a new level of exhaustion, a profound sense of perspective, and utter happiness and peace. We feel so lucky to have our little bear, and she is one today!
