Video: Maya brushing her teeth

Hello, fine friends! It’s the (oft-mocked) guest blogger, and “Dad-DEEEE” of Maya and Hana.

The best part of my day is getting home in time to get Maya ready for bed, which includes trying to get her to brush her teeth, and then having to brush her teeth for her. (The latter generally involves some coercion on my part, so neither she nor I enjoy it, though things are getting better: the screaming was relatively muted tonight.) But the time she spends theoretically attempting to brush her teeth on her own is truly enjoyable. Here’s what happened tonight during this time…

After this, Maya gets bathed, shouts “Bye!” to the other girls (who sometimes get kisses), and then she cuddles up with me and we read a couple of books together (“Ferdinand,” or rather “fuh-dee-NAAAAND,” is the consistent hot favourite for the last several weeks) before I say, “OK, night, night, Maya.” She then leans in for a hug, tolerates a few kisses, slithers off the big-people bed and onto her toddler one, hugs her boof, gives me a big grin, and waits for the lullaby in Urdu that I’ve been singing to her since she came home.

Like I said, it’s the best part of my day, every day.
